Coachman Caravans, one of the UK’s leading caravan manufacturers, has appointed local building contractor, John Thompson Developments Ltd, to complete the final phase of their £3.5 million factory extension. Completion of the final phase will see the addition of an extra 9,000sq ft of office and storage space and work has now started to ensure that the project will be finished by September 2008.
Coachman’s extension project was started in November 2004, to add an extra 29,000sq ft to the existing 33,000 sq ft Sutton Fields factory site. Since the project began, Coachman has succeeded in increasing production by 20%, boosting turnover by 25% and providing jobs for 23 additional members of staff. A significant proportion of this success was achieved last year, thanks to the success of Coachman’s bigger, higher value range of ‘Laser’ caravans.
Coachman has used John Thompson Developments Ltd throughout every stage of the four year project and always insists on using local people, contractors and sub contractors on site whenever possible.
Jim Hibbs, Managing Director of Coachman Caravans explains: “As a Hull based manufacturing company, we are keen to support the East Yorkshire economy, which is why we insist on employing local contractors, subcontractors and staff at all times. We will always use a Hull based company for any work which needs carrying out on site and will only venture further afield when the expertise doesn’t exist in the area.”
He continues: “We have built our reputation by focusing on high quality manufacturing and reliability and we always use suppliers who embody similar values. John Thompson Developments Ltd are one of the leading design and build contractors in Hull and their area of expertise lies in industrial and commercial construction, including industrial extensions and refurbishments. We look forward to working with them to complete our extension project in the near future.”
John Thompson, of John Thompson Developments, also comments on the working relationship: “We are delighted to have been selected once again as the main contractor to work with Coachman Caravans. Coachman’s forward planning and proactive approach assists us greatly, allowing us to give them our usual first class service. This includes completing the contract on or before time, to our usual high standards, using our long established local workforce, local sub contractors and suppliers.”
John Thompson Developments was established in 1992, and since then has grown rapidly to become one of the foremost design and build contractors in East Yorkshire for Industrial and Commercial new build, extension and refurbishment. The company is currently working on 15 sites in the local area, ranging from factory units to flats, shops and offices.
Coachman Caravans was established in 1986 and continues to operate as one of the leading caravan manufacturers in the industry. The company employs 150 members of staff.
